Hello, This is the secretariat of the 2022 Korea International Construction & Industrial Safety Expo. From January 27, 2022, the Serious Accidents Punishment Act(SAPA) has been newly implemented. The implementation of this law has greatly increased the interest and demand for construction safety in Korea. Companies brace for new industrial safety law Under the Serious Accident Punishment Act, business owners or executives at companies with more than 50 employees could face a criminal penalty of a minimum one-year prison term or fines of up to 1 billion won ($835,000) for fatal industrial accidents under circumstances where safety measures are deemed insufficient. (The Korea Herald, Jan 27, 2022, Companies brace for new industrial safety law (koreaherald.com)) SERIOUS ACCIDENTS PUNISHMENT ACT Article 1 (Purpose) The purpose of this Act is to prevent serious accidents and protect the lives and physical safety of citizens and workers by prescribing the punishment, etc. of business owners, responsible managing officers, public officials, and corporations that have caused casualties in violation of their duties to take safety and health measures while operating businesses, places of business, public-use facilities, or public transportation vehicles or handling materials or products harmful to human bodies.
